Anguilla Travel Tips

People often ask, where is Anguilla? We think once you arrive, you will never ask again (Nor will you want to leave).
  • Anguilla is located in the British West Indies, approximately 6 miles from St. Martin in the Eastern Caribbean.
  • Anguilla is the northern-most of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. Latitude is 18N and Longitude is 63W.
  • Anguilla is sixteen (16) miles long and three (3) miles wide. The island occupies thirty-five (35) square miles.
  • Topography – flat and low-lying with white sandy beaches.
  • Northeastern trade winds keep this tropical island relatively cool and dry. 
  • Average annual temperature is 80°F (27°C). 
  • The hottest period is July–October with an average temperature of 31°C  / 88°F in the daytime and 25°C / 77°F in the nighttime. Water temperature is about 28°C to 29°C / 83°F.
  • The coolest period is December-March with an average temperature of 28°C / 82°F in the daytime and 23°C  / 73°F in the nighttime. Water temperature is about 26°C / 79°F
  • Anguilla is a very dry island and often it only rains for a few minutes. Most rain can be expected between September and December (average of 100 mm or 4" per month). The months with the least amount of rain are between January and July (average of 50 mm or 2" per month).

  • Drivers’ licenses – Temporary driving permits allow holders of foreign drivers' licenses to drive locally for up to 3 months. The cost is US $27.

  • Healthcare – Princess Alexandra Hospital is located in The Quarter / the 911 system is in use.
  • Informal and relaxed dress code, although swimsuits in public areas are not appreciated
  • Nude and topless sunbathing is illegal on public beaches.
All persons traveling to and from Anguilla must have a valid passport and clear Customs & Immigration at either the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal or at Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport. Persons traveling by private boats must contact and clear Customs & Immigration at Sandy Ground.
Each person regardless of age is subjected to a Security Fee of US $3 per person

Departure tax applies to all tourists departing Anguilla through the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal or Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport Departure taxes as of March 1, 2021:

Day Trippers:
To St. Martin (French Side) – Departure Tax for persons 12 years and older = US $11 (includes US$ 8 Tax and US $3 Security Fee) / Departure Tax for persons under 12 years of age = US $3 (includes free tax plus US $3 for Security Fee).

To St. Maarten (Dutch Side/Airport) – Departure Tax for persons 12 years and older = US $16 (includes US $8 Tax, US $3 Security Fee, and US $5 for St. Maarten) / Departure Tax for persons under 12 years of age = US $8 (includes Free tax, US $3 for Security Fee, and $5 for St. Maarten).

At the Anguilla airport – Departure tax = US $25

To St. Martin (French Side) on Ferry 
Ages 12 years and older Departure Tax = US $28 (includes US $25 Tax plus US $3 Security Fee) / Ages 5-11 Departure Tax = US $15 (includes US $12 Tax plus US $3 Security Fee) / Under 5 years of age Departure Tax = US $3 (includes free Tax plus US $3 Security Fee).

To St. Maarten (Dutch Side/Airport) on Ferry 
Ages 12 years and older Departure Tax = US $33 (includes US $25 Tax, US $3 Security Fee, and US $5 to St. Maarten)/ Ages 5-11 Departure Tax = US $20 (includes US $12 Tax, US $3 Security Fee, and US $5 to St. Maarten) / Under 5 years of age Departure Tax = US $8 (includes free Tax plus US $3 Security Fee and US $5 to St. Maarten).

All fees paid in St Martin are payable in cash only. Anguilla now accepts credit cards for departure taxes out of Blowing Point.
